Informe and 'Pataphysics

"Instead, let us think of informe as what form itself creates, as logic acting logically to act against itself within itself, from producing a heterologic. Let us think it not as the opposite of form but as a possibility working at the heart of form, to erode it from within. Working, that is, structurally, precisely, geometrically, like clockwork. The word in French that captures this is déjouer. The translation is given as something like ‘foil’ or ‘baffle.’ But that suppresses the part of the action that has to do with games and rules and structure; with a structure destabilizing the game in the very act of following the rules. To create a kind of ‘mis-play,’ but one that, inside the system, is legal. The spring winding backward. Like clockwork” (Rosalind Krauss, The Optical Unconscious, 167).
