Why do you love this painting?
many reasons. but mostly i think because it takes a standard scene (christ coming off the cross) and makes it about everything but that. instead the focal pt. is the handkerchief, the boy suffering under the weight, etc. it represents for me a moment with the margins, the periphery, become central.
